Alterations Workshop
Got pants that need hemming or taking in? Or a hole that needs to be fixed on your favorite shirt? This absolute beginner class will cover how to use a home sewing machine and teach students how to do basic alterations and mending on their own.
In our Alterations class, students will learn the basics of using a home sewing machine - how to get set up, sewing workstation ergonomics, how to thread a machine, how to wind a bobbin, and using a straight stitch. We will then go over how to measure an alteration, how to do a basic hemming alteration (shortening), how to take in side seams and a basic fusible fabric patch - on your clothes! You'll leave this workshop with the knowledge and skills to do your own basic alterations in the future.
For this workshop, students are highly encouraged to bring their own clothing to alter. Before altering clothing, or if you are unable to bring your own clothes to alter, we will be practicing on other fabric.
Workshop fee includes practice fabric, usage of sewing machines, tools and notions, and white or black thread for your project.

Open Sew
Looking to level up your sewing projects with a little guidance? Join us for Open Sew, an assisted open workshop designed for those who already know the basics of sewing but want support on a personal project and enjoy creating in community.
Our Open Sew Sessions include a 10-15 minute demo/overview at the beginning of the session. Demo Themes are listed below with with the session dates.
Bring your creativity and your project—whether it’s alterations, upcycling or crafting something entirely new. Our instructor will be on hand to help you set up your machine, provide advice on tricky steps, and answer questions as you go. If you have your own sewing machine, we highly recommend bringing it for this class so you can get comfortable learning the ins and outs of your machine, otherwise you're welcome to use one of our class sewing machines.
This class is perfect if you:
Want a second set of eyes before making that first cut.
Need clarification on specific techniques.
Crave a collaborative space to work on your sewing projects.
If your project is highly specialized or requires in-depth one-on-one guidance, we recommend inquiring about private lessons to ensure you get the support you need.
Please note, you must have recent sewing experience in order to attend. To be eligible to sign up, students must have completed our Intro to Sewing Course OR have proficient understanding and application of how to use a home sewing machine including threading the machine, winding a bobbin, adjusting stitches & stitch settings and changing presser feet.
