Intro to Jewelry Making Course

This intensive course includes 12 class hours of jewelry making, covered over 4 days. Each student will learn the basics to jewelry making through various projects. You will dive into a hands-on classroom where you will design and fabricate jewelry in a supportive and creative atmosphere. Students will become familiar with all of the essential techniques, including sawing, heating and forming metal, soldering, ring making, bezel stone setting, polishing and finishing each piece. You’ll have the opportunity to make several pieces and learn new skills along the way.

Jewelry Making II: Strengthening Your Soldering Skills

Sunday Afternoons April 6th-27th 3-6pm
Take the next step in your jewelry-making journey with our Jewelry II course! Designed for those who already have a foundation in metalsmithing, this course introduces new techniques to help refine your craft and bring more complexity to your designs. You’ll explore bezel roping and multi-stone settings, learn to bezel-set faceted stones, and dive into pic soldering and chain making. Throughout the course, we’ll also focus on refining your skills—helping you achieve cleaner solder joins, smoother finishes, and more precise craftsmanship.

A variety of 3–8mm CZs
Use of all tools and equipment needed throughout the course
Unlimited independent studio time during the course duration

Elastic Waist Pants // 2-Day Workshop
Class Dates: Thursday Evenings, May 8th & 15th 5-8pm
Take your sewing skills further by making a pair of relaxed, easy-to-wear elastic-waist pants! In this two-session workshop (three hours each night), you'll work through the full process of garment construction—from fabric cutting to sewing and finishing details—using the ZW Block Pant pattern by Birgitta Helmersson.
Along the way, you’ll learn how to:
Read and work from a sewing pattern
Cut fabric efficiently with a zero-waste design approach
Sew and finish seams for durability and a clean look
Create an adjustable, comfortable elastic waistband
This class is built for those who have taken Intro to Sewing or are already proficcient at using a sewing machine. Students are required to purchase the ZW Block Pant PDF pattern before class (link provided upon registration). All other materials are included in the class fee.

Jewelry Making III: Casting & Stone Setting

Saturday Mornings, May 10th-31st 10am-1pm
Build on your metalsmithing skills with Jewelry III, a course designed to introduce new techniques that bring depth and dimension to your work. This class explores the fundamentals of sand casting, giving you the ability to replicate organic textures and unique forms in metal. You’ll also learn tube and flush setting, refining your approach to incorporating faceted stones into your designs. Throughout the course, we’ll focus on precision and finishing techniques to help you create polished, professional-quality pieces.
Course Includes:
Scrap sterling silver for casting
Sterling silver tube for stone setting
A variety of 3–8mm CZs
Use of all tools and equipment needed throughout the course
Unlimited independent studio time during the course duration
Lists of recommended tools and materials to continue learning
Brass and copper will be available if desired, but the course primarily focuses on sterling silver. Students are encouraged to bring their own scrap metal, faceted stones, and are welcome to work with gold if they’d like to give it a go!

This course is project-based, meaning students will come in with their own designs and goals and the curriculum will tailor itself to the needs of the students. We believe this approach will provide the space for independence and creativity to flourish, all while exploring your personal aesthetic in your jewelry making journey.
Students should come prepared with designs and goals for what to learn, and can expect to complete at least two-three finished pieces. Students should have basic knowledge of sawing, texturing, annealing, soldering and stone setting. During the course, we will be able to expand upon these skillsets and introduce new ones such as fold forming, patinas, tube settings, reticulation, enameling and more.

Students are encouraged to bring their own personal hand tools and/or silver and stones if they want to work with what they are used to! We will have some silver for purchase and will provide our student code to purchase materials from Rio Grande prior to the class if wanted.

Intro to Jewelry Making Course
This intensive course includes 12 class hours of jewelry making, covered over 4 days. Each student will learn the basics to jewelry making through various projects. You will dive into a hands-on classroom where you will design and fabricate jewelry in a supportive and creative atmosphere. Students will become familiar with all of the essential techniques, including sawing, heating and forming metal, soldering, ring making, bezel stone setting, polishing and finishing each piece. You’ll have the opportunity to make several pieces and learn new skills along the way.

Please note that students are required to attend all four classes for safety reasons and otherwise. If a class is missed, a make-up lesson may be possible, but students will be responsible for the private lesson rate of $60/hour for any make-up lessons.

Intro to Sewing Course

This intensive sewing course is offered in two formats: a 2-Day (8-hour) or 4-Day (12-hour) option. Each student will learn the basics of sewing through multiple projects - spanning garment sewing, quilting and basic housewares and accessories - and practice their skills in a hands-on classroom. You'll learn how to use a sewing machine, how to use straight & zig zag stitches, multiple seam finishes, how to take measurements and how to work with elastic and zippers. You'll have the opportunity to make multiple projects and will leave confident in sewing on your own!
