Intro to Sewing Course

$425.00

This foundational sewing course is offered in two formats: a 2-Day (8-hour) or 4-Day (12-hour) option. Students are expected to come with little to no sewing experience, and will leave with the ability to independently tackle beginner sewing projects - like a tote bag or simple t-shirt.

Students will learn a number of technical skills, including:

  • How to thread and use a sewing machine

  • Straight stitch and back stitch

  • How to measure fabric

  • How to cut fabric

  • Working with zippers

  • Changing presser feet

  • Stitch reinforcement

Sewing is a skill built on repetition and during this course, you’ll build essential sewing skills through hands-on practice in a supportive, project-based classroom.

If you’ve purchased a machine and haven’t been able to get started, or watched 10 YouTube videos and still can’t crack the code, or are just curious about sewing basics - this class is for you! No experience or tools needed, just bring your enthusiasm, and we’ll cover the rest.

Throughout each session, you’ll gain practical knowledge and skills through a range of beginner-friendly projects that cover different types of sewing (eg. garment making, accessories, quilting, household items). Each participant should expect to finish the course with 2-3 completed projects and the skills and confidence to keep sewing on your own.

What’s included:

  • 12 or 8 hours of instructor-led coursework

  • Cotton, linen, and polyester fabrics

  • Thread, zippers, and other notions

  • All tools and equipment needed for the course, including use of one of our Singer Heavy Duty sewing machines during class

  • Scrap fabric for practice

Projects may include:

  • Pattern weights, Quilted strip potholder, zip pouch, lined tote

  • 2 linen napkins, Quilted strip potholder, zip pouch, woven t-shirt with a neckline facing
