Hemming Workshop
Class Date: Monday, March 23rd 5:30-8pm
Got pants that need hemming? Or a skirt that could be a few inches shorter? Or maybe a dress that you wanted at a midi length instead of ankle? This absolute beginner class will cover how to use a home sewing machine and teach students how to do basic hemming on their own.
In our Hemming class, students will learn the basics of using a home sewing machine - how to get set up, sewing workstation ergonomics, how to thread a machine, how to wind a bobbin, and using a straight stitch and zig zag stitch. We will then go over how to measure hemming alterations, the difference between a single fold and double fold hem, and how to do a basic double fold hem - on your clothes! You'll leave this workshop with the knowledge and skills to do your own basic alterations in the future.
For this workshop, students are highly encouraged to bring their own clothing to alter. In class, we will be able to hem most pants & jeans, skirts and dresses. Before altering clothing, or if you are unable to bring your own clothes to alter, we will be practicing on other fabric. Please note that this class is an absolute beginner class and does not include any curriculum on blind stitching, blind hems, baby hems, formalwear or bridesmaids dresses.
Workshop fee includes practice fabric, usage of sewing machines, tools and notions, and white or black thread for your project.
If you would like to bring your own color thread, we recommend purchasing Gutermann Mara 100 thread or bringing another brand new 100% polyester thread.
Due to the group nature of the class, we are unable to accommodate cotton, silk or other thread types, or vintage thread.
