Class Date: August 7th 5-8pm
Customize your jeans, denim shorts or overalls with beautiful visible patches. Patches can elevate and revive old denim, and in this class we’ll cover how to make your own visible patches using quilting cotton and scrab fabric. This confident beginner class is a great way to start working with denim and personalizing your wardrobe.
In our Visible Patches class, students will learn the basics of a sewing project - how to measure, cut and press multiple pieces of fabric, how to make a simple patch, how to pin patches to existing garments, how to create reinforcement stitches and how to use a zig zag stitch.
For this workshop, students are highly encouraged to bring their own clothing to mend and add patches to. Before mending your denim clothing, or if you are unable to bring your own clothes, we will be practicing on other fabric. This class will focus on denim fabrics, so please avoid bringing any stretchy or lightweight fabrics to add patches to.
Workshop fee includes practice fabric and patch fabric, usage of sewing machines, tools and notions, and white or black thread for your project.
Please note this is a Confident Beginner class and students are expected to already know how to operate a sewing machine, including threading the machine, winding the bobbin, straight stitch, back stitch and cutting fabric. If you need a refresher on these skills, we recommend attending our Intro course or an Absolute Beginner class first.
