Upcycling Sewing Workshop

  • Fleur 13 East 4th Avenue Denver, CO, 80203 United States (map)
$90.00

Class Date: October 20th 3-5:30pm

Breathe some new life into your old clothing & fabric! This Sewing 101 class will cover how to use a home sewing machine and teach students how to repurpose materials to start a basic upcycling project.

In our Upcycling class, students will learn about the basic principles of upcycling and how to cut existing clothing or fabric and prepare it for sewing. We will also go over the basics of using a home sewing machine - how to get set up, sewing workstation ergonomics, how to thread a machine, how to wind a bobbin, and using a straight stitch and a zig zag stitch.

Students will be able to choose their own project from the following options:

- Pillow/cushion or floor pouf

- Braided fabric coasters

- Oven mitts and pot holders

- T-shirt quilt

For this workshop, students are highly encouraged to bring their own materials to upcycle - including t-shirts, jeans, denim, and any other fabric or clothing they're looking to repurpose. If you are unable to bring your own materials or need more, you will be able to use fabric scraps provided by the instructor.

Workshop fee includes usage of sewing machines, tools and notions, and white or black thread for your project.

Please note, due to the personalized nature of each upcycling project, students may not complete their project by the end of the workshop. If you do not complete your project, we will provide instructions on how to complete the project at home and encourage you to bring your project to our next Open Studio session for more time on our sewing machines.
